Plantation Shutters are one of the most stylish and most popular window coverings available. Plantation Shutters retain their value far longer than any other type of window covering and can even increase the value of your home. Shutters are timeless and so they will never go out of style and they look great by themselves, rarely requiring dress-up with curtains or drapes. For a look that is warm, authentic, traditional or contemporary, wooden shutters are an excellent choice. Available in 3 louver sizes (2-1/2", 3-1/2" and 4-1/2"), the 3-1/2" & 4-1/2" louvers are the most popular because they allow you to maximize your view out as well as the amount of natural light that you allow in. Panels can be as wide as three feet and can be split in two via a divider rail so that the top and bottom sections of the slats are operated by their own tilt-rod.

Louver size can dramatically change the style from traditional to contemporary as larger louver sizes are used. Our attractive elliptical shaped louvers have rounded edges (not square) for perfect closure. It's common practice to use smaller louvers for smaller windows and larger louvers for large windows. The larger the louver the better the view out when the louvers are tilted to maximum "view through" position. We suggest keeping louver sizes consistent throughout your home or office.
Available Frame Styles
L-Frame L Frames are used to mount shutters outside the window jamb or more commonly on french doors. The edge of the L-frame usually aligns with the window edge. Under situations where there is molding around the window, L frame can be mounted on the outside edge of the molding or on top of the molding.
Z-Frame Z-Frames are both an inside and outside mounted frame because part of the frame installs within the window opening with a decorative edge that rests on the outside wall or trim. Z frames are used in mounting the shutter system inside a sheet-rock or out of square window openings. The lip of the frame hides any irregularities in the shape of the opening. Z frames come with pre-drilled holes and can be installed with screws that will be hidden under the inserts.
Standard Tilt-Rod The standard 1/2" wide tilt rod is usually located in the center of the panel. It normally relates to having a mouse hole on the top rail allowing it to rest inside. The purpose of a tilt rod is to keep the synchronization of the louvers. However, we always suggest opening and closing the louvers by tilting the louvers themselves by hand to avoid separating the staple from the tilt rod or the louver.
Hidden Tilt-Rod Hidden tilt rods are either white or silver aluminum that connects in the back of the panel on the side of the louver. The hidden tilt rod may also be cut almost anywhere in lieu of a divider rail, but the hidden tilt bar has to be cut every 39".
Divider Rail Divider rails are used to divide the panel horizontally into two sections and add stability to the overall structure of the shutter. This enhances the appearance of the shutters and enables better light control as each section is adjusted independently. A divider rail is required on shutter panels whose height exceeds 74". Divider rails can also be used to cover existing rails in the window opening ensuring a continuous look for the window. Divider rail size will be approximately matched with louver size.
Hinges / Colors Similar to door hinges, shutter hinges attach the panel to the frame or T Post allowing the panel to be opened or closed. This allows for a 180° rotation if there are no obstructions. Our standard hinges are self-mortising do to its design to minimize gaps. Available Colors: Antique Brass, Black, Bright Brass, Snow White, Stainless Steel and Swiss Coffee.
Hanging Strips Are used to eliminate the need for framing and is most often used on windows with a recess or window sill. Hanging Strips hide the attachment of the panels to the wall, giving you a clean, uniformed look to your shutters. An innovative frame design for easier installation. Hang strip comes with pre-drilled holes and can be installed with screws that will be hidden under the inserts.
NOTE: If you have tilt-in windows hanging strips are not recommended unless you have a space of 1-1/4" between the outside edge of the window sash and the side of the window opening. Anything less than 1-1/4" and you won't be able to tilt in your windows without removing the shutter.
